Aboriginal Education
At Casino Public School, we deeply value and celebrate Aboriginal Education as a vital part of fostering understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Our dedicated Aboriginal Education Team leads the way in embedding Aboriginal perspectives across all school activities, ensuring our school remains a culturally safe and inclusive environment for our students and their families.
We develop personalised Learning Pathways (PLPs) for all Aboriginal students from Kindergarten to Year 6. These PLPs are created collaboratively with students, their families, and teachers, enabling students to set meaningful goals in various aspects of their school life. Throughout the year, school staff and families work together to support students in achieving these goals, regularly reviewing progress. Our annual PLP Celebration is a special occasion where the school community comes together to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our Aboriginal students.
Community engagement is a focus for Casino Public School. Regular Community Yarn-ups provide a space for families to share feedback and express their hopes for their children’s education. Aboriginal student voices are actively encouraged through our Turtle Divers groups and the Public Schools Survey, with all input highly valued and integrated into our school planning and evaluation.
Our Aboriginal students can be part of our Girls and Boys Aboriginal Dance Groups who regularly perform at community events, CPS School events and at other local schools. Casino Public School is proud of the way we celebrate culture and provide a culturally safe environment to work, play and learn.
Cultural celebration and education are at the heart of our K-6 Cultural Program. All students participate in activities that deepen their understanding of Aboriginal culture. Our P-6 Bundjalung language program, delivered by Aunty Carmel and Aunty Belinda, engage students regularly, with staff incorporating Bundjalung language into daily routines.
